I've just moved into a new house, in a beautiful suburb of central Melbourne. And what a difference. After a few years of chopping and changing, finding myself in leaky apartments and minuscule studios, the benefits are already clear. I am benefitting from a clear mind. Previously, I viewed where you live in mechanical terms; a secure space to eat, sleep and store a few possessions. That was misguided.

This will feel more personal. Perhaps random at times. The intent in my heads feels more clear however. How on earth do I channel my energies into something worthwhile, and everlasting. Or something like that.

Let me begin with the words you are kindly digesting. I do not pretend to have all the answers. I do not claim that There Is No Alternative. This publication is only a starting gun for something bigger. We must play to the strengths of the online world to elevate, scrutinise and refine our arguments for the offline world. There is no reason why we cannot still refer to landlords and tenants, consultants and clients etc. They will remain the backbone of the industry, after all. The future however, belongs to those who prioritise people-centric language. Those who design and build experiential real estate. Those who refer to family life, continuous learning and regional vibrancy.

I don’t know exactly how this all plays out. What I do know is that the world we’re stepping into is radically different from the one we knew. As we wave goodbye to the 20th century, we enter a new era — one of decentralized networks, personal sovereignty, and self-determined futures.We’re no longer tethered to the old systems. We’re free to explore new ways of working, living, and interacting with each other. The tools we use — from Bitcoin to personal infrastructure — are just the beginning.
