Seeking Energy

March 18, 2021

Steven McCormack

Until now, I've not had the energy, and thus clarity of thought, to act out my life preferences. Well now my friends, the tide is turning. As I set out in an earlier musing, we are leaving the rolling stone life behind (for a while yet, anyway). I can feel my batteries (and my soul) charging just by being in a pleasant space, with the perfect partner, and our (admittedly crazy) puppy.

My Love Of Structure

March 16, 2021

Steven McCormack

So what do I mean by structure? At a high level, it is a commitment to regular, repeatable action. It is a map, ensuring that I am intentional with my time and energy. That's not to say I live a rigid, mechanical life. Quite the opposite! But without some form of structure, I would be an untethered yacht; floating around randomly whilst edging ever closer to the rocks.

A New Journal

March 15, 2021

Take a moment to reflect and commit your thoughts to language. It can be a healing process; once you see the 'logic' of your emotions in words, they frequently look a bit silly. Sure, you don't always walk away from a diary entry with a clean mental slate. But the power of a journal compounds over time. It leaves a trail of recollections that would otherwise be lost in the ether.

The Confidence Trick

March 11, 2021

Steven McCormack

Remember this; you have no guarantee what action you take will be right or wrong. Yet the very thought of Doing Something lifts your spirits. It pulls you off the floor and dusts you down. Use that energy to navigate your situation. Take some joy in whatever the outcome may be; after all you helped create it.

Keep Going

March 10, 2021

Steven McCormack

Its taken a few rides on the emotional rollercoaster to develop this resolve, I can assure you. I've spent nearly five years carving out a life that aligns with my preferences. I'm not even sure if I'll reach that hallowed ground. And guess what, I don't think I'd have it any other way. This is my story, and it will play out as the universe intended it.

It's all Greek to Me

Steven McCormack

Another Vervaeke inspired musing, folks. This time over four Greek words I have been introduced to, thanks to his series; Agape, Logos, Gnosis and Anagoge. The best way for me to explore these terms (or concepts even) is to relate them to my own investing and writing efforts. And before we begin, I must admit to borrowing heavily from other sources to help with the explanations (a big hat tip to Mark Mulvey and Andrew Seeney). So please bear with the heavy quoting. On that bombshell, let's roll.

Your Money's no Good Here!
July 30, 2021

All is not what it seems, especially when you develop a strange fascination with assets, Nixon and monetary history. Jack attempts to settle his bill with a dollar from 1980 (when the film was released). But the barman, a figment of the 1920s, does not equate Jack's money with his own. How so? The clue is in the name; The Gold Room. The barman cannot accept 1980 dollars because they are a very different beast to 1920s dollars; they are no longer redeemable in gold.

Building Better Business

In its purest form, commerce acts as the great motivator, the ultimate mentor. We conduct our commercial affairs against a backdrop of economic and trading uncertainty. Our decisions and behaviour are constantly pitted against known unknowns and unknown unknowns. We are drawn to ingenuity and innovation through the actions and presence of our competitors. We observe, learn from, and adapt to ever shifting risks and opportunities.
